It’s been an entire year since we left the road. To be honest, there’s not a single day that goes by that we don’t think about our time living out of our van. That life, that now seems so far away, was full of adventure and curiosity. Each day held a new experience, a new opportunity.
We learned a lot while traveling.
We learned that memory foam freezes as hard as a rock at 45 degrees.
We learned how to live off a box of rice.
We learned that you can never have enough water when you’re hiking.
We learned to always check the weather.
And we learned something even more important. We learned about ourselves. Daily we talked out loud about aspirations and our dreams. We learned that when we let our bodies wander our minds will follow. While we were traveling our dreams were limitless.
Since we have been back to our full-time gigs our wild thoughts have been extinguished. When we are going through our day-to-day routines we no longer verbally express our future plans and ambitious dreams.
We recently booked a trip to Switzerland and plan on getting lost in the Swiss Alps for a few days. We’re really excited about this trip because, even if it’s for a short time, we hope our minds will wander like they used to.
If you feel like you are living on autopilot, then perhaps it’s time you start talking - out loud! You’ll be amazed at how much you can work through when you talk through things with someone. So grab your significant other, a friend, your mom, or just your journal and go through these questions. Ask, answer, and most importantly, listen.
Pick around five questions from the list below. You will probably discover you’ll go off on tangents and get lost in deep conversation - that’s the point! When you’re done, let us know how you feel.
If you had one million dollars to spend on ONLY yourself, how would you use it?
What was your dream job as a child?
What is your biggest fear?
What do we not talk about very often?
What’s the best thing that happened to you this week?
Name something that is holding you back.
Who do you know who is living life to the fullest?
What is your most beneficial emotion? Your most destructive?
Thanks for listening,
Erin, MJ & Otter
